Covent Garden FX – Trader of the month March

Browsing around Covent Garden and walking through the west side of the Jubilee Market during peak hours you might face a queue along the colonnade: this is because here there is an exchange company that offers one of the best rates in London. The Covent Garden FX. This bureau is a family run money exchange business that has been trading out of Jubilee Market since 1987; Sid Hayes and William Healey started the business and today this shop is still serving tourists from around the globe and locals that live and work in the area. Emma Hayes and Paul Healey are now managing the business with even more success: they have developed a community of trusting clients who travel from near and far to exchange their cash exclusively here at the Jubilee Market, in the heart of Covent Garden. Emma is also Manger of the Chelsea’s ladies football Team and despite her busy agenda she welcomed us here, explaining the key points of this trusted worldwide exchange-rate company. “No deal is too small” – is the motto. Treating their knowledgeable customers with respect and honesty, they work on high volumes and small profit margins and this is why their rates are so good. Ben the Books – Trader of the Month December 2014

Ben the Books – Trader of the Month December 2014

Benjamin Milsom began selling books, maps and paintings here at the Jubilee Market in Covent Garden four years ago, when he returned from 22 years abroad working the markets all over Europe based in Southern French Alps, where his work took him to the South of Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Denmark. Ben is from a City of London market trading family: his mother worked with his Grandfather in Brick Lane, The Waste (Dalston) and the ‘Cally’, back before it was called Bermondsey Antiques Market and moved to South of the river from its original site in Caledonian Road, Islington. The love of books come from his father, he would always have his nose in an old history book! Benjamin can’t seem to leave them alone – they always have a secret to share, he has scoured most of Western Europe buying and selling them. Inside he is still a boy out on a treasure hunt in the woods, except his prize doesn’t glitter in the sun, just chokes you under dust and cobwebs! Benjamin loves his job and cannot see any other way more satisfying to make a living, meeting and talking to people from all over the globe and from different walks of life, never get bored with it. With his wife Lorraine they are constantly combing the country for something rare or beautiful and he believes that they will never stop searching: they are very lucky to both have the same passion which takes them on the road, where it is surprise every day. London is his home and the markets are London, where we...

We asked Sunny to tell us about an awful or funny situation that happened to him. ‘Often, when a gentleman come with his wife and he is willing to buy something that he really likes, but generally if his lady doesn’t like it… oh dear, they will never buy it! So I have to be careful because it’s like walking on eggs shells!’. You...
Wine Stopper – Trader of the Month October 2014

Wine Stopper – Trader of the Month October 2014

Will has always been creative, enjoying making handcrafted items. A musician for many years after which he took courses in enamelling and wood restoration. He used to make his own pear wine and then noticed a demand for a quality wine stopper. Most of the bottle stoppers available in stores were of poor workmanship and cheap design, mainly imports from the Far East and many of these bottle stoppers were unable to give an air tight seal, and definitely not handmade! That’s when the idea for making a quality hand crafted bottle stopper occurred. The first wine stoppers were made in 1994, which successfully sold at English heritage and rural craft fairs. They are made from the finest Portuguese cork, Maple wood, and Enamel; the non-porous tapered cork shape can be used for most bottle types, including wine, spirits, soda, oil, even champagne! Giving an air tight seal, even when lying sideways. Personalised bottles stoppers are available: they can be made from your images, artwork and ideas with no set up costs and a free of charge design. When you are looking for a gift, they have just what you need: both decorative and functional, supplied with a matching wooden cork holder, a presentation card and a gift box, wine stoppers will delight the recipient. Wine Stoppers trade during the weekend, Arts&Crafts at Jubilee Market in the art of Covent Garden. Check the full article here:...
